A true landmark for 24hr food Beth’s Cafe in Seattle has been around since 1954 serving omelettes to the good folks of the Northwest. Having been featured on that one network that I wouldn’t mind working for… the Travel Channel, this institution is known for its behemoth 12 egg omelette that I refuse to try to consume. Having the audacity of thinking I would be able to just grab food on a sunday morning I pull up to find out I had at least a 30 min wait with a crowd gathered around the front door like it was a saturday night dance club and they were waiting for the doormen to approve of them and their outfit. Hey did the big man in the Seahawks jersey just belt out my name..RAME party of two!!!..and I’m at that..walking in this place gives me the vibe of the Seattle scene known to us all..grunge. The walls are lined with crayola drawing as if they were inspired by 1st graders all done by the fine patrons of this fine establishment. Our waitress had big make up and an even bigger personality…energy drink anyone LOL So I scan over the menu and to my surprise they have a build your own omelette so I go in with links mushrooms and american cheese my classic fav along with some sourdough toast some OJ and I’m ready to grub. While waiting on my meal I decided to roam around the iconic spot.
The have a game room tucked away with a few pinball machines and classics 1980’s arcade. I Cant stop focusing on the artwork created by customers with white paper and crayons off what looks like a bunch of shots, beer and hours of listening to Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. The pay for play jukebox is surprisingly playing tunes from this eclectic crowd from Eminem to The Greatful Dead. While sitting in a prime location of the first table as you walk in the line never gets any smaller but actually grows to a 45 min wait and I hear not one person… not put their name on the list. And I finally find out why.
The 6 egger has taken up a majority of my place with the all you can eat hash browns peeking from underneath. Cooked to perfection is this omelette while the cheese mushrooms and links ooze out of it over the buttery but not over cooked hash browns to die for. Overall this is a must whenever you come to Seattle. Beth’s Cafe has been featured on the Travel Channel, the Food Network, The Learning Channel and was even voted “Best Place to Cure a Hangover” by Seattle Magazine.
I’d give this place 4 out of 5 jewels. So despite having to stand around and wait and maybe in the rain its well worth it and the $10 I paid for my meal is priceless. And like for real where else ya gonna go in the middle of the night for good eats. For more information on Beth’s Cafe please visit their website www.bethscafe.com.
